A number of major malls are located outside the centre and on the city outskirts, including the El Tormes, which is home to two floors and almost 100 different shops.

Rua Mayor offers an array of local food stores and cafés, where you can sample traditional specialities, homemade sweets and chocolates. For those looking for souvenirs, the districts around the Universitate Mercatus Salamantinae, close to the cathedrals, is known for its large number of gift shops, selling jewellery, clothes, tapestries and Spanish fans. Bargain hunters who enjoy traditional and lively market banter should be sure to visit Salamanca's 'rastro' flea market in the Aldehuela area, where a mixture of local handicrafts and food is on offer.
