The outskirts of Salamanca are home to a wealth of large gardens, parks and spectacular natural landscapes. Close to Salamanca, the Sierra de Béjar and Sierra de Francia mountain ranges are worth exploring and have much to offer, including hiking trails, superb views and many recreational activities.

Huerto de Calixto y Melibea

An ancient orchard in the heart of historic Salamanca, nearby the Old Cathedral, the Huerto de Calixto y Melibea is home to many typically Mediterranean trees, including olive trees. The gardens offer impressive views, shady spots and a large collection of colourful, fragrant plants.

Pantano de Santa Teresa

A scenic reservoir around 30 km / 19 miles from Salamanca, the Pantano de Santa Teresa is a particularly beautiful place for walking, picnicking and relaxing, away from city life. Other highlights here include boating, fishing and a selection of seasonal water sports.

Just over an hours' drive from central Salamanca, the Sierra de Béjar is an outstanding mountain range, offering seemingly endless views of the surrounding landscape. Hiking trails and viewpoints are in abundance around the mountains, together with many other popular recreational activities, which include fishing and rock climbing.
