The of Salamanca is known for its superb tourist attractions, which are diverse and often extremely popular. Salamanca features a number of grand palaces, such as the 16th-century Palacio de La Salina, which has become a major tourist attraction in its own right.

Many of the main tourist attractions in Salamanca are never far from the Plaza Mayor, a busy central square surrounded by old buildings, shops and cafés.

Further tourist attractions in Plaza Mayor include the Castille and Leon Conference Centre and Plaza de Toros La Glorieta (Salamanca Bullring), both of which host a number of seasonal events and fiestas.


Mayor Square (Plaza Mayor)

One of the main tourist attractions and draw cards in central Salamanca, Plaza Mayor dates back to the first part of the 1700s and is famous for its endless arches and surrounding historic buildings, which include the City Hall (Ayuntamiento). Over the years, this important public space has hosted numerous events and fiestas, and consequently many of the buildings feature large balconies to ensure optimum views of the action. A number of local shops and cafés can be found in and around the Plaza Mayor.

Castille and Leon Conference Centre (Palacio de Congresos y Exposiciones de Castilla y León)

The Castille and Leon Conference Centre is one of Salamanca's most notable pieces of stylish contemporary architecture and hosts many of the area's main shows, fiestas and concerts. With two main exhibition spaces and a popular coffee shop, the centre offers an extensive events calendar.

La Salina Palace (Palacio de La Salina)

An impressive palace dating back to the 1500s, the Palacio de La Salina stands near to Salamanca's Mayor Square. Attractions at La Salina Palace include highly detailed stone carvings and mouldings, a large courtyard, well-maintained period features and an elaborately decorated interior.

Solis Palace (Palacio de Solis)

Part of the Plaza de los Bandos, in the centre of Salamanca, Solis Palace is a historic 16th-century building, which was greatly remodelled in the 1930s. Now used as an office space by the Telefónica company, the building retains a number of its original features and charm, and is still an impressive building. The Palacio de Solis can only be viewed from the outside.

Salamanca Bullring (Plaza de Toros La Glorieta)

Built at the end of the 19th century, the Salamanca Bullring is a major structure in its own right, with three levels and many detailed features. Providing seating for more than 10,000 spectators, the Plaza de Toros La Glorieta features regular bullfights, particularly during June and September, and also hosts many popular fiestas, outdoor events and occasional summer concerts.

With almost 800 years of study and academic achievements, Salamanca University is one of Spain's oldest and most important universities, and the complex comprises a number of extremely historic buildings. Founded in 1254, Salamanca University currently features 16 faculties, more than 60 departments, four main university schools and over 35,000 students. Close to both the Tormes River and Plaza Mayor, university attractions include cafés, art works, seasonal sporting events and a number of notable buildings, such as Anaya College (Colegio de Anaya / Palacio de Anaya), and the San Pelayo College (Colegio de San Pelayo).

With magnificent Baroque-style architecture and a number of historic buildings, Salamanca's Universidad Pontificia stands in the Barrio Antiguo district and features many truly outstanding attractions. The Papal University contains a number of faculties, a grand staircase, a coffee shop and a number of seasonal events.
